Louis Brandeis (b. November 13, 1856, Louisville, Kentucky – d. October 5, 1941, Washington D.C.) was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, serving from 1916 until 1939. Brandeis was the Court’s 67th justice and its first Jewish-American justice. He was the son of immigrants from Bohemia, who came to Kentucky from Prague, then part of the Austrian Empire. Elgin Victor Kuykendall was born in Oakland, Oregon in 1870 where he spent his early years at Fort Simcoe, WA, where his father was the Indian Agency physician. His family moved to Pomeroy, WA in the 1880's where he finished school, taught and studied law. He opened a law practice and practiced law in Pomeroy.
